Vipassana - Flip the Mind !

Day 11 of the course had began, but there did not seem any adrenaline within the ephemeral thoughts of the mind to rush back to the city. All the days in unison had this tranquil texture floating around them. The 11 day course had come to an end but the mind has just began to ponder around the splendor of what had just happened.

Before planning to visit Igatpuri, which is possibly considered the best center to learn Vipassana from the S.N. Goenka lead centers, the ghetto within the mind with all its troubled reasoning was trying to give up even before starting. Some people always try and push you back when you are trying to do something different, that would happen to anyone who is planning to visit this place for the first time. People would pull you into the cluster of religious taboo or brain wash syndrome and what not. But I wish to clarify that visiting this place did not make me change my religion and it did not even make me shave my head and become a monk, it precisely and joyously made me a better person!

So whats the whole shot in the arm 11 day course all about? Its definitely not a collection of spiritual harangues trickling your mind to eternity, it is way beyond that. Divulging too many things of the course structure might prove to be counter-productive for people planning to visit the course but the sharing of the mirth which the course ignites is evidently the intention behind this write up. All 11 days, the purpose is to get a foothold into the beautiful technique which Lord Buddha had invented. The courseware of 11 days can surely not make you a Buddha but would make you aware of how beautiful beginnings are.

During the structure of the course, one is taught how to get better control of the thoughts and eventually gain a lot more control of the double edged sword like mind. How the knowledge of the various bodily sensations would make all the inner woes evaporate like camphor is what the later part of the course tries to teach. Beyond the various teachings, the course teaches one how to live with your own very self with supreme frugality and scrupulous thought process. It takes you away from the chains of technology which has the ability to deepen our woes further if not handled with care. All the people around you seem so good inspite of you not even speaking to them as 10 days one would be practicing "Arya Moun" as they call it.

Every person over within the course, whether its the admin staff or the teachers or the volunteers are working for a greater good and I cant help but appreciate the volition which they are putting forward. The important thing to understand is many people end up getting here thinking it would cure sorrows, cure depression or cure physical ailments. All these cures might come about but this is not what this course is all about.  I remember someone asking me, " Are you so depressed, that you ended up going to Vipassana?". The world is full of people who imagine and assume, so let such questions not affect your decision to become a better person! It is never too late to become a better human being, is it? :-) .
